Mason Jar Brownie Mix

smith_086-e1300471900845

Mason Jars are the perfect holiday gift. Inside each jar, comes a brownie recipe ready to be mixed in a bowl. It makes baking so much easier for the person receiving the gift because you only need to add eggs, pop the mixture in the oven, and you get instant brownies.

To start off, you will need a mason jar. You can get these at any arts and crafts stores. I got mine at Michael’s for $1.25.

Now, you need all the ingredients for the brownie mix. The whole point of this gift is to have all the ingredients already measured so you can dump all the ingredients in a bowl and mix. Here are the measurements and ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 ¼ cups white sugar
  • ½ cup pecans/chocolate chips/marshmallows/whatever topping you want

Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Put it first inside the Mason Jar and pack it tightly. Then, layer the remaining ingredients on top of each other in the order listed above, making sure to pack it tightly in between each layer. When you’re done, you should have something like this:

Now you can decorate it! You can paint the jar, ad stickers, flowers, bows, whatever you like!

With my Mason Jar, I simply hot-glued a pink ribbon around it, and at the center  I also hot-glued on a decorative snowflake.

These Mason Jars are so cute and make the perfect gift for whatever occasion. Once the recipe is made, the brownies are absolutely delicious.

feature-cookiesA perfect dessert for the winter season: Hershey Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies! These cookies are easy to make and delicious to eat. Here are the ingredients you will need:

  • A bag of Hershey Kisses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup of Peanut Butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

First you will need to heat your oven to 375°F. Then start mixing ingredients by beating shortening and peanut butter in large bowl, and start adding the 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar until well blended. Then add the egg, milk and vanilla and stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. Lastly, add the peanut butter into the mixture.

Next, remove the wrappers from the Hershey Kisses and set them aside for now. From the mixture, get a small portion and shape the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll the balls into granulated sugar and place them onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake them 8 to 10 minutes and immediately push a Hershey Kiss into the center of each cookie. Cool them completely and enjoy!

Here’s how mine turned out:
